LIMA
CITY, CHURCHES, MUSEUMS & PACHACAMAC.

Modern Lima

lima
Modern Lima is a mix of architectural styles, beautiful gardens and avenues which is especially true in the Miraflores, Barranco and San Isidro neighborhoods. Commercial districts boast excellent shops, bookstores, art galleries, bars, clubs and restaurants and a vibrant nightlife. The mansions, large plazas and churches of colonial Lima, along with its modern neighborhoods, make the city an interesting study in contrasts.
Colonial Lima
lima
The Plaza mayor is the true center of the city and home to three of the most important building of the colonial era: the cathedral, the Palace of the Viceroys, (to day government palace known as the Pizarro´s House) and the City Hall. The Cathedral lies in the same spot as the original one built in 1555. It was rebuilt under the direction of the Jesuit priest Juan Rehr after the earthquake of 1746. Its facade and interior are austere , especially the chorus seats, altar and the tomb of conqueror Francisco Pizarro.
The Torre Tagle palace is one architectural monuments leftover from colonial times. What most stands out about this monuments is its beauty. Its luxurious vice regal architecture is reminiscent of Lima at the turn of the 18th century, with its asymmetrical facade, stone-carved door and two Morrish-style wood balconies gracing its second floor.
